Call for Course Faculty

Purpose:
The purpose of this Call for Course Faculty is to give individual Death Educators and Grief Counselors and Therapists the opportunity to acknowledge their desire to teach one of the Professional Development Courses taught prior to the ADEC Annual Conference.

This specific call is for Death Educators and Grief Therapists to inform us of their desire to teach the Foundations Course of Dying, Death, & Bereavement to be offered the two days prior to the 2008, 2009, and 2010 ADEC Conferences.  

Courses: Foundations Course of Dying, Death, & Bereavement

    • Course Description: Designed for all professionals, this course provides a broad, interdisciplinary introduction to the essential topics and core knowledge – both classical and contemporary – that underlie death-related counseling and education. It is intended to enhance the participant’s expertise in the field Thanatology by bringing together guidance on theory, research, practice, and resources. The course will emphasize issues related to coping with death-related encounters, cultural differences, different grief models, developmental perspectives, bereavement care, an appreciation of relevant moral, ethical, religious and spiritual values in this field, and important lessons about life and living.
    • Required Reading: The proposed required reading [text(s) and/or articles] for this course shall be listed by the applicant on the ADEC Professional Development Faculty Application.

The Faculty:
The faculty for this course must fulfill all of the following criteria:

  • Have taught the scope of this course either at a professional conference or in a college/university setting.
  • Currently work as either a Clinician or Death Educator
  • Have ample years of experience in order to have sufficient first-hand knowledge of the course content.
  • Not taught the course at an ADEC Annual Conference for the last 6 years.
  • Commit to a 3 Year term starting with the 2008 ADEC Annual Conference and extending through the 2010 ADEC Annual Conference.

Compensation:
Information regarding the full compensation package will be sent to all viable applicants upon receipt of completed ADEC Professional Development Faculty Application.

The Process:

  • Applicant will fill out and submit ADEC Professional Development Faculty Application including all relevant information.
  • The Professional Development Committee will review all viable applications and select two or three with whom interviews will be conducted and the details of the compensation package discussed.
  • The Professional Development Committee will recommend an applicant to the ADEC Board of Directors for approval.
  • All applicants will receive notification regarding the decision.
