ADEC sponsors PBS show about loss and grief

We are proud to announce that ADEC has signed on to be a nonprofit sponsor of the PBS production, The Neon Man and Me, a one-man show featuring actor and storyteller Slash Coleman. In the program, Coleman acts out eight monologues about friendship told by 30 characters, recounting the life and death of a close friend and his experiences of grief and loss. He created the show to be a tool that inspires people, but especially men and boys, to talk openly about their feelings related to bereavement, loss and male friendship.

ADEC’s First Vice-President, Kathleen Gilbert, reviewed the program: "The Neon Man and Me is a funny, moving and exquisitely honest tale of the love of a best friend that transcends death. His use of music and humor are engaging, and his honest portrayal of the pain of grief provides a window into the soul of a man coping with loss. ADEC members will find this to be a valuable resource in their therapeutic and educational efforts."

You can help spread the word about this program and through that, ADEC’s support of it. Contact your local PBS station and encourage them to pick up the show. Write a letter, send an e-mail, or pick up the phone. Tell the program director why you think this show is important and why you'd like to see it on your local station. (The show is being fed by satellite to PBS stations by NETA on Sunday, March 21, 2010 from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. ET.)
