This session recognizes a multitude of loss and grief issues faced by children in a contemporary world. Through the use of case studies, participants will learn how to use clinical techniques with grieving children. They will gain an awareness of common responses to grief in children, the tasks of grief and the myths associated with grieving children.

Target audience:  Grief counselors, Grief Therapists, Teachers, School Counselors, Hospice Workers, clergy, and social workers, etc.

Learning Objectives:
Upon participation in this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common signs of grieving children
  • Apply resolution techniques useful in working with grieving children
  • Choose appropriate loss and grief vocabulary when working with grieving children.

About your instructor:
Linda Goldman is a Fellow in Thanantology: Death, Dying, and Bereavement (FT) with an MS degree in counseling and a Master's Equivalency in early childhood education. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NBCC). She worked as a teacher and counselor in the school system for almost twenty years. Currently she has a private grief therapy practice in Chevy Chase, MD, working with children, teenagers, families with prenatal loss and grieving adults. She is the author of several books, including Life and Loss: A Guide to Help Grieving Children and Raising Our Children to be Resilient: A Guide to Helping Children Cope with Trauma in Today's World.
