Mindfulness: An Under-Appreciated Technique for Grief Therapy

Mindfulness has recently become a popular panacea for addressing everything from depression and anxiety to corporate management relationships. While its original form can be effective for certain mental maladies and stress reduction, commoditization and commercialization of mindfulness have created a diluted version that is used in ways not originally intended. 

This webinar features Dr. David Zuniga, a psychologist and Zen priest, and Worth Kilcrease, a thanatologist and chair of the ADEC Professional Development Committee, discussing mindfulness as an effective adjunct to a grief therapy practice. Dr. Zuniga describes traditional mindfulness, the difference between a mindfulness-based practice and mindful meditation, as well as the 2,500 year-old relationship of mindfulness to death and dying, emphasizing the existential nature and spiritual aspects of that relationship. Best practices for employing mindful meditation in modern-day psychotherapy will be discussed, including its indicators and contra-indicators.

Webinar Platform: The webinar will be presented via Zoom and will require your system to allow the Zoom platform to be downloaded and ran to watch the live presentation. Log in instructions will be sent the day before the webinar to the email used during registration.

    Your registration fee for a live webinar includes one audio connection*, one PDF of the slide presentation (when provided by presenter), and one evaluation for continuing education credits. The member and nonmember price each include 1.5 CE credits for one participant. Additional participants in the webinar can purchase CE credits for an extra $17.50 each. Those participants will need to provide the registration code given to the primary registrant in order to receive credits.  This number can be found in the primary registrant’s confirmation email.
