The Meaning In Loss Group: Addressing Complicated Grief from a Narrative-Constructive Framework
With Jane Milman, MA, PhD and Robert A. Neimeyer, PhD
Recorded May 2019
The Meaning in Loss Group (MLG) is a meaning-based group intervention targeting complicated grief (CG). The MLG uses a narrative-constructivist approach to facilitate meaning making regarding the death event itself as well as the ongoing relationship between the bereft and the deceased. The reconstruction of a meaningful continuing bond with the deceased is leveraged to encourage re-engagement with life-affirming activities.
Dr. Milman will introduce the principles that frame the MLG, and then describe its format and procedures by reviewing the weekly modules and techniques employed in the group protocol. She will emphasize special considerations and offer illustrations relevant to each module. Dr. Neimeyer will then offer consultation on the implementation of meaning-oriented grief therapy in individual and group formats.
