Exam Postponement Request

Policy and Requirements

ADEC's exam postponement and retesting policies have been updated effective January 1, 2025. All new testers in 2025 will be subject to the updated policy, and all prior testers will be subject to the previous policy. If you'd like to submit a retest request, please visit this page.

2025 Policy

  • Exam takers are eligible to retest and/or postpone their exam for a maximum of two years before being required to re-apply for the exam and pay the full application fee.
    • Example: The initial application was submitted in 2025 and then either postponed or completed the exam but did not pass.
      • The second opportunity to take the exam will be in 2026 with applicable fee
      • If you elect to postpone or do not pass in 2026, your only remaining opportunity to test before requiring another application would be 2027
  • For each request, a candidate must provide documentation for meeting eligibility requirements consistent with the criteria in place at the time of the initial application. The Credentialing Coordinator will initiate this process, and successful demonstration of continuing eligibility via an updated application must be completed by the end of the regular application window of the year you intend to test.
  • Each postponement or retesting request will require submission of the request form and payment of a $150 administrative fee.
    • Postponement requests must be received no later than 5:00 PM EST the day prior to the exam
  • The candidate will relinquish all fees paid if the credential is not awarded within the granted time period.
