ADEC is one of the oldest interdisciplinary organizations in the field of dying, death and bereavement.  Its nearly 2,000 members include a wide array of mental and medical health personnel, educators, clergy, funeral directors and volunteers. Membership in ADEC is open to anyone interested in the field of death education and counseling.

1.  Online Subscriptions to Three Professional Journals
ADEC offers its members access to complimentary electronic subscriptions to Omega: The Journal of Death and DyingDeath Studies and the journal of the Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement, Grief Matters. Members also have access to available back issues of all three journals in PDF and HTML format.

2. Connects
ADEC members receive this bimonthly electronic digest that includes short news items for and about ADEC members, along with event information and thanatology-related items. Members can contribute items related to their own work.

3. The Thanatology NewsBrief
A new benefit in 2014, the Thanatology NewsBrief is a free, biweekly digest of headlines and news related to death, dying and loss. With a variety of stories selected from media outlets around the world, members will be more informed about broader issues related to death, dying and loss. The NewsBrief arrives via email on every other Thursday, and can also be conveniently accessed through an RSS feed or mobile device.

4. Annual Conference Discounts
ADEC members receive substantial registration discount to attend the ADEC Annual Conference , continuing education courses and workshops. The conference provides an excellent opportunity to network with leaders in the field and to share information and strategies.

5. Professional Certification
Certified in Thanatology (CT®) and Fellow in Thanatology (FT®) are professional certifications that recognize practitioners and educators in the field who meet specified requirements measured by a standardized testing process. ADEC's annual awards program recognizes ADEC members who have made outstanding contributions to ADEC or to the field of dying and death. In conjunction with the ADEC Annual Conference, the Pre-Conference Institute Program offers courses and workshops on perspectives in death and dying, death education and grief counseling.
